If there are 117,649 ways to win, does almost every spin pay?
No. 117,649 is the highest possible value, and you only get it when all six reels show the maximum number of symbols. On top of that, the number of ways is not a probability; it only counts how many paths a win could take.
The studios' hit rates make this clear: the three games below range from 20.48% to 37.70%, so most spins on them still end without a win.
The big number describes the mechanic, not the payout.
Big Time Gaming: the mechanic other studios use under licence
Megaways is a patented mechanic of Big Time Gaming (BTG). According to the official bigtimegaming.com, the studio was founded in 2011, Bonanza came out in 2016, and other developers have since used the mechanic under licence. BTG was bought by Evolution in 2021.
As of 11 October 2026, Big Time Gaming is not in the Dukat.bet lobby; the games tagged Megaways there come from other studios, mainly Red Tiger, BGaming and NetEnt.
So the name refers to the winning system, not the maker.
Multiplying reel by reel: how the number on screen comes about
A typical Megaways game has six reels, and on every spin the number of symbols landing on each one is random, usually between 2 and 7. Wins form from left to right on adjacent reels, regardless of position. So the number of ways is a simple product: you multiply the symbol counts of the reels.
| Symbols visible per reel | Calculation | Number of ways |
|---|---|---|
| 2 on all six reels | 2×2×2×2×2×2 | 64 |
| 2, 3, 7, 7, 7, 7 | 2×3×7×7×7×7 | 14,406 |
| 7 on all six reels | 7⁶, i.e. 7 six times | 117,649 |
The middle row is a made-up configuration that only shows the method.
In many Megaways games the winning symbols drop out of the grid after a win and new ones fall from above, so one spin can bring several wins (cascades). The help page says whether a game has them. Short definitions are in the slot terms glossary.
What The Fox, Trillionaire, Wish Master: three studio fact sheets

What The Fox Megaways (18 May 2021) is rated Insane despite its 37.70% hit rate. Wilds that fill a whole column multiply the ways by up to 7× each, so 3 such wilds give 7×7×7 = 343×. In free spins the starting multiplier is up to 10× and grows to a maximum of 20×.
Trillionaire Megaways (20 March 2025) has fixed, non-progressive jackpots: Mini 25×, Midi 100×, Maxi 1,000× and Mega 10,000× the bet. Alongside them sits Hold and Respin with 10 spins, the counter resetting to 3.
The Wish Master Megaways (12 June 2023) runs on a 6×7 grid. The lamp grants one of four features (Extra Wild, Wild Reel, a 2×/3× multiplier worth 6× together, Random Wilds), at most three at a time, each for up to 5 spins.
According to the lobby these appear to be available in demo mode too; confirm before launching.
Megaways beliefs collected in one table
| What many people believe | What is actually true | How to check it |
|---|---|---|
| More ways = a better chance of winning. | The number of ways counts paths, not probability; the studio publishes the hit rate separately. | Find the hit rate line on the fact sheet and compare it with the number of ways. |
| When lots of ways come up, the spin costs more. | The bet is fixed before the spin; the number of ways is set after it. | Watch the bet display on a 64-way spin and on one with a large count. |
| All Megaways games are the same, only the theme differs. | Multipliers, jackpots, wild modifiers: the features vary from game to game. | Read the features part of the help page before placing your first bet. |
The difference between the two measures is explained in the lesson on volatility and hit rate.
Bonus money on Megaways spins: what to check about jackpots
Megaways games are slots, so Dukat.bet's main offer applies to them: Slots Bonus – 500% up to 3,000 EUR + 15% Cashback. No profit is promised; read the terms before activating it.
Check one thing separately. Under point 2.15 of the official general bonus rules, all jackpot slots are excluded from wagering. We do not know whether Dukat.bet treats Trillionaire Megaways with its fixed jackpots as a jackpot slot, so look at the exclusion list when you play with a bonus.
Work it out yourself: ways on a made-up spin
Practice exercise with made-up numbers – not Dukat.bet data:
In a six-reel Megaways game, after a spin the reels show 3, 4, 5, 2, 6 and 7 symbols. How many ways are there? How many would there be if the fourth reel showed 7 symbols instead of 2? Does your 0.20 EUR bet change along the way?
Solution. 3×4×5×2×6×7 = 5,040 ways. With a fourth reel 7 high, 3×4×5×7×6×7 = 17,640 ways: more than three times as many because of a single reel. The bet stays at 0.20 EUR in both cases, because you fixed it before the spin.
What a win is worth is decided by the paytable, not by the number of ways.
Five questions for your notebook before the next Megaways spin
- How many reels, and at most how many symbols per reel?
- What does the studio say about volatility? Read it on that studio's own scale.
- What is the hit rate? Look for it on a separate line.
- Is there a jackpot or a bonus buy? With a bonus, check the exclusion list.
- What RTP does the info panel show? Write that down, not the studio's figure.
To compare with old-school fixed-line machines, see the lesson on classic slots; how free spins and multipliers work is covered next in the lesson on bonus rounds.
